Controlled Vocabulary and Thesaurus

A thesaurus is a domain model that implements a controlled vocabulary containing concepts arranged in a known order, with clearly displayed relationships between the concepts, identified by standardized indicators, like those involving hierarchical and associative relationships. (Zeng, n.d.)

This draft thesaurus begins to codify preferred terms for concepts and to eliminate ambiguity, especially among potential calls for the same figures, as well as to represent hierarchical and associative relationships among concepts.  There is currently no standard vocabulary for figures

as they are used to write, call, or notate dances, making indexing of dances difficult,

and impossible to integrate into a well-organized database.
